Simple Rules With Friends Everyone Should Respect

RULE #1: Use Discord, I don’t know why you would want to use the in-game text chat when there’s a free software that allows you to voice call with friends.

RULE #2: Mute microphone while in-game or dead. Show your friendly impostor some respect by staying silent while he/she kills you, as this game requires ALOT of communication. Any small sounds or voices or tones can be used against you. So MUTE YOUR MICROPHONE, only unmute in discussion and voting phase.

RULE #3: Respect each other post-game, don’t be that guy and attack/blame your friend after a game. You are free to analyze what went wrong/right last game but refrain from blaming your own friend as this is a full-on communicating game, everyone is tensed up and can be hurt quite easily. Don’t break your friendship over a game. it’s silly.

SOME TIPS:

Try to have fun! Even if you died first, just finish up your tasks and listen to your friends falsely accusing the wrong person.
If you start feeling salty, let your friends know you wanna get some breather. Go outside, or walk around your house. Stay away from your computer/phone for 5 minutes and come back.

Why These Game Settings?

I’ll explain everything point by point so that there’s no further confusion (I hope)

Why 8 or more players?

Among Us – Standard Settings

It’s due to the default ruleset that I play which always involves 2 impostors, but you can definitely make just 1 impostor and still use the default rules. But I don’t recommend playing at MIRA HQ if it’s just 1 impostor, too big of a map for 1 guy.

Confirm Ejects

Among Us – Standard Settings

I have mixed feelings about this, I started off with this ✅ed and have only recently started playing with unconfirmed ejects. This to me definitely makes the game more uncertain which is probably what I dislike, being uncertain whether a person is an impostor or not. Having this unchecked leans onto Impostor sided and vice versa. Unless if everyone’s already got the hang of playing together and learning the curves around this game, I suggest keep it ✅ed. Makes Impostor feel more tense too when they see their friend getting ejected and everyone reacting “NICE ONE BOYS, ONE IMPO LEFT!”

1 Emergency Meeting per person

I think it’s most reasonable that only one person get to call the meeting once is because of game balancing, if you have a crewmate with 2 or more meeting calls. He/she is able to press it whenever they feel suspicion, so the point of using it wisely just disappears.

Discussion & Voting Time

If you and your friends are using Discord to communicate, stick with this amount of time to talk and vote. It keeps the game flow moving smoothly, no extra time to talk nor second choices. However if multiple people are using ingame text chat. Feel free to make the discussion time much longer, ESPECIALLY IF THEY’RE PLAYING ON THE PHONE. Ask your friends to get discord if they don’t.

Player Speed

This is definitely the best movement speed I’ve played with in the game, anything more or less is just too fast or too slow. It feels just right to have this speed since you can turn around corners, run or chase easier.

Crewmate and Impostor Vision

Among Us – Standard Settings

0.5x vision for Crew and 1.0x for Impostor is a fair number for both sides(crew and impo) because you’re not supposed to see how far the impostors can, wouldn’t make much sense to see what the killers can. Again we’re aiming for the most optimized game settings, yes Impos can sabotage the lights to reduce your vision even more but note that there are only 2 impostors and there’s 6 or 8 crew in the game so it’s 6v2 or 8v2.

Kill Cooldown

The reason why kill cooldown should be this long is because the beginning round when a player reports, there would usually already be 2 deaths. This would lead to 4v2 or 6v2, and it’s likely that someone will get lynched and info’d out at the first round in an 8 player game. A 10 player game however is more difficult due to the amount of players. So impostor would only likely to get ruled out at second round, and that would be 4 deaths if impostors are proficient in communicating with in-game movement.

Kill Distance

This one should obviously be kept short because you would NEVER want an impostor to be able to kill you from a long distance especially moving at 1.0x speed where there’s more time for impo to decide whether to kill you or not while following. This makes the impostors more wary of their surroundings.

Visual Tasks

I personally dislike deactivating this, but if your games are usually filled with 3v1 or 4v1 situations with your friends always saying “COME TO MEDBAY I’LL PROVE I’M CREW”. Deactivate this, because impostors will never win in that scenario. You get it right? By deactivating visual tasks, players will now no longer be able to see what each other’s doing, deactivating this leans more onto Impostor side.

Tasks Length and Numbers

For now I’d suggest everyone to follow what this guide says, I personally like the amount of tasks this setting has for game-length purposes. Each game would last around 15-20 minutes, but if the tasks don’t seem to fit your group’s playstyle. Make more or less tasks!
