BG3 How to get Owlbear Cub
Welcome to our BG3 How to get Owlbear Cub guide. This guide will show you detailed information about how to gey owlbear cub in BG3 and the necessary steps to welcome it into your camp.
Where to find the Owlbear Nest in BG3
You’ll first encounter the owlbear cub and its mother in the Owlbear Cave, situated to the northeast of the Blighted Village waypoint. To reach this location, one viable route is to proceed westward from the Emerald Grove Envious waypoint, cross the bridge, and take a right, following the path downwards until you arrive at the Cave Mouth.
Once inside the cave, you’ll find a fork in the path. To the left, you’ll come across the Gilded Chest of Selûne. However, if you continue straight ahead, you’ll encounter an owlbear and its cub.
Pro Tip: When conversing with the owlbear or its cub, it’s advisable to use a character with either the ability to Speak With Animals or one with a high likelihood of succeeding in an Animal Handling skill check.
The owlbear mother will approach, expressing a desire to feed you to her cub. During the ensuing dialogue, you can choose to either persuade the owlbear to allow you to leave peacefully or engage in combat.
Should You Kill the Owlbear in BG3?
If you successfully convince the owlbear that you pose no threat, it will allow you to leave peacefully. However, approaching too closely to the owlbear or its belongings will initiate combat.
It’s important to note that you don’t have to engage in combat with the owlbear to obtain the owlbear cub. Simply having your initial interaction with the owlbear mother will enable you to later locate the cub and add it to your camp. To learn more, skip to the section on “Freeing the Owlbear at the Goblin Camp.”
Upon defeating the owlbear mother in combat, a cutscene will follow, presenting you with a choice: either spare the owlbear cub by selecting “Let the creature live” if you wish to have it as a camp companion, or choose to attack it. If you spare it, the owlbear cub will enjoy a meal, and you’ll have the opportunity to loot the cave.
Rescuing the Owlbear at the Goblin Camp
Upon discovering the owlbear cave, continue your quest to Rescue the First Druid Halsin by locating the Goblin Camp.
Upon entering the camp’s front gates, your attention will be drawn to Volo, who is held captive on stage before a goblin audience. To the left of the stage, you’ll spot the owlbear cub, surrounded by a group of goblins.
Note: If you don’t initially see the owlbear cub at the goblin camp, consider taking a long rest one or two times, as it may appear during your subsequent visits.
Engage in conversation with Krolla, who will introduce the concept of “chicken-chasin'” and inquire if you’d like to participate. The goblins mistakenly believe the owlbear cub to be a chicken and have a game where you can chase it through an obstacle course.
You have the option to either play the game (and pay a fee in gold) or decline. Regardless of your choice, you’ll have a private conversation with the owlbear cub after concluding your interaction with Krolla. During this conversation, you can extend an invitation to the owlbear cub to join your camp.
Return to Krolla and initiate another conversation. At this point, you’ll be presented with the option to inform her, “I’m leaving – and the owlbear’s coming with me.”
After selecting this option, you’ll have the opportunity to perform a skill check, propose to purchase the owlbear cub, or utilize your Illithid abilities to persuade her to release it.
Upon your successful endeavor, the owlbear cub will take off, following your scent back to your camp.
Acquiring the Owlbear Cub for Your Camp
After rescuing the owlbear, it will take a few days for it to trace your scent back to your camp. To facilitate this process, make sure to continue taking long rests during your journey, and eventually, a cutscene will unfold where the owlbear cub appears.
Tip: The character who initiates the long rest will be the one to interact with the owlbear cub. If you wish to comprehend the owlbear’s communication, use a character equipped with the ability to Speak With Animals. Nevertheless, any character can earn the trust of the owlbear cub.
During your first encounter at camp, you’ll have the option to offer the cub a piece of food or attempt an Animal Handling check to encourage it to come closer. The cub may initially display hesitance, but its hunger will ultimately lead it to accept the food.
On this initial visit to your camp, the owlbear cub might become frightened and flee, especially if you have someone like Karlach in your party, who tends to loudly express her affectionate aggression, unintentionally startling the cub.
Subsequently, the owlbear cub will reappear at your camp during your next long rest, but this time, it will be injured.
Extend your assistance by tending to its wounds and maintain a positive dialogue.
Following this interaction, the owlbear cub will become a permanent resident of your camp, and you’ll have the pleasure of showering it with as many pets as you desire!
Furthermore, if one of your party members possesses the Outlander background, such as Karlach, they will earn an Inspiration point as a result of this heartwarming connection.
