Gauntlet of Shar Walkthrough in Baldur’s Gate 3
Welcome to our Gauntlet of Shar Walkthrough in Baldur’s Gate 3 guide. You can discover the Gauntlet of Shar within the subterranean depths of Thorm Mausoleum. The crypt is positioned to the south of Last Light Inn. Merely follow the road, traverse the river to reach Reithwin Town, and proceed northward from there. Upon reaching a waypoint past the graveyard, you will encounter the devil Raphael, who presents Astarion with a proposal. Your task involves vanquishing one of his rivals lurking within the dungeon.
Mausoleum Puzzle
The initial puzzle involving the Gauntlet of Share within Baldur’s Gate 3 is situated in the Theorem Mausoleum. Should you peruse a time, it imparts the necessity of treading in General Thor’s path: “From splendor, to tragedy, to infamy.”
Upon ascending to the highest chamber, a coffin and three murals come into view. With the presence of several traps, it’s advised to disband your group, allowing Australia to neutralize them (assuming he holds the highest Sleight of Hand proficiency). Subsequently, your task is to engage with the murals in the prescribed sequence:
- Splendor – The mural portrays Moonrise Towers.
- Tragedy – Depicting Theorem mourning his deceased daughter.
- Infamy – Theorem occupies a throne, casting a malevolent gaze upon his audience.
The resolution of this enigma grants access to the passage, granting you the opportunity to ascend the elevator to the true Gauntlet of Shar area.
Statue Puzzle
Upon entering the initial chamber, your attention will be drawn to a statue clasping an orb. Any effort to approach it will result in being repelled. Here’s the procedure to follow:
- Investigate the adjacent chambers and operate the levers to lower all the hanging lanterns.
- Exercise caution to prevent triggering traps, as they unleash obscuring clouds of darkness. These clouds harbor hostile rats that are impervious to attack.
- Once all the lanterns are lowered, engage with them to extinguish their light.
- As the room becomes enshrouded in complete darkness, a pattern will emerge on the floor. Designate a solitary character to move stealthily, evading the luminescent lines.
- By adhering to this approach, the character can safely reach the orb and activate it, thereby unsealing the passage.
Balthazar and Battle
Progressing through the subsequent portion of the Baldur’s Gate 3 Gauntlet of Shar dungeon beckons a confrontation against numerous Justiciar undead adversaries. The focal concern revolves around the Umbral Tremors, akin to ebony voids, which warrant attention. Left unchecked, these enigmatic entities facilitate the birth of additional undead soldiers.
With the hostile forces vanquished, your attention will be drawn to another contraption and an elevated platform. Regrettably, these components remain beyond your current influence. Instead, direct your path towards the left to establish a waypoint. Adjacent to this, a further altercation against undead opponents awaits. This zone also encompasses several additional chambers:
- The chamber to the north is sealed, accommodating an assortment of treasure chests, one of which harbors an Infernal Iron earmarked for Karlach.
- Towards the left, you’ll encounter Balthazar’s dwelling, soliciting your aid and presenting an artifact capable of conjuring a Flesh Golem.
- Positioned to the south stands a statue dedicated to Shar, a site for characters to engage in reverent communion. Navigating a Religion check is requisite; success confers a boon in the form of heightened resistance against necrotic damage. However, unsuccessful attempts bear penalties. It is judicious to avoid this action with Shadowheart, as indications suggest it may result in an unreserved dedication of her heart and soul to Shar. Though yet unverified, such an act could conceivably impact the potential romantic relationship with Shadowheart.
Orthon’s Location and Resolution
To advance in Astarion’s Pale Elf quest, navigate to the right from the designated waypoint. As you approach a staircase, your attention will be drawn to a Displacer Beast. Although cats are usually delightful, exercise caution as this one could pose a threat.
Follow the creature into the antechamber, a space adorned with scattered bones. Notably, this region of the dungeon, along with the subsequent trial rooms, contains Umbral Gems – pivotal quest items required to empower the central device.
Upon nearing the throne, the demon Orthon will materialize seemingly from thin air. Imprisoned within the dungeon for countless centuries, it fervently desires escape. Should your attempts at persuasion falter, a formidable skirmish will ensue. The adversaries are positioned on a ledge above you, complicating matters. However, an alternative approach exists:
- Express willingness to aid the Orthon, and inquire about its contract with Raphael.
- Successfully surpass a concealed Arcana check to unveil the contract’s duplicitous nature.
- This revelation prompts another Persuasion dialogue option. Declare that his followers are present and must meet their demise. Consequently, the Orthon eliminates its lesser minions.
- Triumph in the ensuing response, compelling the Orthon to slay its loyal Displacer Beast companion.
- Conclude by asserting that the Orthon’s lingering presence necessitates its own demise.
- Should you successfully persuade the Orthon to self-destruct, or alternatively triumph in combat, its remains can be looted for an Infernal Iron and the coveted Hellfire Hand Crossbow.
This ranged weapon boasts the ensuing attributes:
- Enchantment: +2
- Hellstalker: Chance to ignite the target when striking while concealed or invisible.
- Scorching Ray Shot: A newly unlocked spell at your disposal.
The Gauntlet of Shar’s Trials
Our attention now shifts towards the assortment of trials within the confines of the Baldur’s Gate 3 Gauntlet of Shar. These challenges are situated to the left side of the dungeon, lining a corridor proximate to the waypoint. To initiate these endeavors, engage with the Shar altar, prompting Shadowheart to offer her blood. Each successfully completed trial yields an additional Umbral Gem.
Self-Same Trial
Upon entering the Trial of Self-Sameness chamber, you’ll confront mirror versions of your party members. These duplicates employ identical spells and abilities, warranting vigilance against their assaults. Ideally, allocate each party member to counter their respective counterpart. Hitting an incorrect mirror image results in diminished ability scores until the subsequent long rest.
We recommend disregarding these debuffs, allowing you to eliminate adversaries without constraints, rather than meticulously assigning targets per character. A long rest can be undertaken after this encounter. Additionally, you can acquire the Killer’s Sweetheart ring, furnishing a reaction enabling you to designate your next strike as a critical hit after vanquishing a foe (refreshing after each long rest).
Soft-Step Trial
The Trial of Subtle Steps entails navigating a compact maze patrolled by a pair of Shadows. Discovery prompts a teleportation back to the entrance. We opted to utilize Astarion to evade detection, concurrently maneuvering to pick locks and disarm traps.
Faith-Leap Trial
The third trial within the Baldur’s Gate 3 Gauntlet of Shar unfolds within a dimly lit room. You’ll discern the silhouette of ledges in the distance. However, as you approach, they fade from view. Upon reaching the rear-right section, a cautious advance towards the center allows for a leap to the ledge housing a statue. Activation of the lights accompanies your achievement, and an Umbral Gem is bestowed upon you.
