Occlude Deck Rules and Achievements Guide

In this guide, I will explain the deck rules you need to know to win, the achievements and how to get achievements in Occlude.

Deck Rules and Achievements

Each deck hides a unique twist, and understanding the win conditions is the key to unlocking those elusive four-diamond endings. Below, I’ll walk you through every rule set in detail, explain how the coin mechanics work, and break down how to unlock every achievement in the game.

Overall Win Condition Rules

To win in Occlude, you need to move all cards from the tableau (the columns) to the foundation piles. Foundations can be built upwards from Ace or downwards from King. But there’s more beneath the surface:

  1. Each suit has one randomized “special card” per game that must be added to the foundation last.
  2. A set of four coins (top right) represent Clubs, Diamonds, Hearts, and Spades — left to right.
  3. When you correctly place a special card last, its suit’s coin turns into a diamond. If you don’t, it shows a skull.
  4. Endings are tied to how many diamonds you earn:
    • 4 diamonds: Best ending
    • 0 diamonds: Alternate ending
    • 1–3 diamonds: Worst ending
  5. Coins can be in three positions:
    • U = Up
    • D = Down
    • M = Middle

The Magician Deck

Mechanic:

  • Pick up any card. If a coin drops, the suit it represents is the suit of the special card. The card you picked up is the special card. Mark it. Play it last.

El Paraguas Deck

Mechanic:

  • When a special card becomes playable (uncovered and on top of a column), its coin lowers.

Example:

  • An 8♣ is beneath a 6♦. You move the 6♦ and place it elsewhere. A coin lowers — that’s the Clubs coin, so the 8♣ is the special card. Mark it. Play it last.

Note: Merely hovering a card doesn’t count. You need to place the card somewhere: onto another stack or into the Purgatory Slot. Also, if a coin rises after you place a card, it means you just covered the special card.

The Coffin Deck

Mechanic:

  • Put any card into the Purgatory Slot. If a coin moves, the placed card is the special one for that suit. Mark it. Play it last.

Example:

  • No example needed. If this confuses you, maybe this game isn’t your speed.

The Stub Deck

Mechanic:

  1. Works like El Paraguas – a coin lowers when a card becomes playable.
  2. But look which coin moves.
  3. The suit of the moved coin + the number of the now-playable card = the special card.

Coin Behavior:

  • Clubs ↔ Spades
  • Diamonds ↔ Hearts

Example:

  • An 8♣ is behind a 6♦. You place the 6♦ elsewhere and the Spade coin drops. That means the 8♠ is the special card, not the 8♣.

Tip: If a coin starts down at game start, it means one of the initially playable cards in the linked suit caused it. Use that to narrow it down.

Mr. Slab the Butcher Deck

Mechanic:

  • Coin positions tell you the distance between a placed card and the special card (in the same suit).
Coin PositionMeaning
DDUU3+ higher than special
UDUU1–2 higher
UUUUExact special card
UUDU1–2 lower
UUDD3+ lower

Example:

  • Place 5♣ → UUDD → special is 3+ higher → maybe 8♣ or higher.
  • Then place 10♣ → UDUU → special is 1–2 lower → 8♣ or 9♣.
  • Place 8♣ → UUDU → special is 1–2 higher → 9♣ is the special card.

Tip: When you see DDUU or UUDD, it’s safe to clear a bunch of cards in that suit.

The Punched Card Deck

Mechanic:

You place a card. The coins spell out the number of the special card in binary, for the placed card’s suit.

  • U = 0, D = 1
  • Positions = 4-bit binary (left to right)
BinaryValueCard
001022
001133
101111Jack
110012Queen

Example:

Move 9♣ → coins = UDUD = 0101 = 5 → special card is 5♣

Pro Tip: If all four suits are playable, place one of each in the Purgatory Slot to instantly reveal all four special cards. Then undo and begin your run.

The Photograph Deck

Mechanic:

A logic puzzle deck that works like “Guess Who”.

  1. Make any move → Undo it → This asks a question
  2. Pick up a card → Coins answer based on the picked card’s suit

Questions (in order of moves):

Coin PatternQuestion
DUUDIs the special card EVEN? (2, 4, 6, 8, 10, Q)
DMMUIs the special card ODD? (3, 5, 7, 9, J)
UDDUIs it a FACE card? (J, Q; possibly 10)
UUDDIs it HIGHER than the card I picked up?
DDUUIs it LOWER than the card I picked up?
DUDUIs the card I picked up the special one?

Answers:

  • UUUU = No
  • DDDD = Yes

Note: For higher/lower questions, the logic is reversed from Mr. Slab’s deck.

Example:

  • Place 7♣ → Undo → Coins = DMMU (Is it ODD?)
  • Pick up J♠ → Coins = DDDD → Yes → Mark 3, 5, 7, 9, J♠ as potential special cards.

To ask different questions, you must place/undo additional cards to cycle through the question list.

All Achievements in Occlude

There are 11 achievements in total. Seven are earned by getting 4 diamonds in each deck. The remaining four require specific challenges.

  • Achievement 8: Unlock All Endings
Get all three endings (0, 1–3, 4 diamonds) on each deck.
  • Achievement 9: Mark Every Card
At the start of a game, mark every card before taking any other action.
  • Achievement 10: Reshuffle Without Playing
Start a round, hit new deal immediately. Done!
  • Achievement 11: Sort All Suits Without Foundations
In Classic Mode, organize cards into four suited columns without using the foundation piles.
No second purgatory slot allowed. Extremely difficult. Hope for a favorable deal and use every move wisely.
