Returnal Fatal Error Resolution

Welcome to our Returnal Fatal Error Resolution guide. Simple resolution for fatal error caused by certain weapons, bosses, or too much activity on screen.

So this is a simple fix and might not universally help everyone. In my case, I went from being able to crash the game in 10-15s to being able to play a full playthrough with the weapons that crashed me and fighting every boss to the second biome over an hour into the game without crash (I left because I finished my run).

First open your game properties. Next scroll to the “Launch Options” section and add “-dx11” which forces Direct X 11 instead of 12. The crashes dropped dramatically in my case. I am going to mess with settings from here now that it works.

About Returnal

The game follows Selene, a space explorer who crash-lands on an alien planet called Atropos. Selene’s mission is to uncover the secrets of the planet and find a way to escape. However, she soon discovers that the planet is not what it seems, and she is trapped in a time loop, reliving the same day over and over again. As Selene progresses through the game, she uncovers the mysteries of Atropos and learns more about her own past.

Returnal’s gameplay is fast-paced and challenging. The player must navigate through the procedurally generated environments, fighting off waves of enemies with a variety of weapons and abilities. The game’s combat system is fluid and responsive, with each weapon feeling unique and satisfying to use. The game also features a robust upgrade system, allowing the player to customize their character and weapons to suit their playstyle.

One of the game’s unique features is the use of permadeath. When the player dies, they are sent back to the beginning of the game, with all progress reset. However, the game is designed in such a way that each run feels different and challenging, keeping the player engaged and motivated to try again. The game also features a variety of secrets and hidden areas, giving the player plenty of reasons to explore and experiment.
