A2A Modes

Before reading ,,A2A modes” please note that MiG-29, Su-27 and Su-33 have 2 modes of locking.

  1. EO (ТП in Russian)
EO or Electrical Optic is a mode that don’t give your enemy a sign that he is locked or missile is coming his way, but it works only on heatseekers (all heatseekers are numbered and explained in section ,,heatseekers”)
  2. Radar or RL (РЛ in Russian)
Radar will give your enemy a warning that you are locking him and shooting at him with your missiles. With radar you can shoot all types of A2A missiles (heatseekers and radar missiles (semi-active and fully active). When you are in BVR mode with radar on and you will see a enemy aircraft, this aircraft will have a RWR warning about that you see him on your HUD (still BVR mode)

You can shoot with both modes on, you will see EORL (ТПРЛ in Russian)

A2A modes:

  1. BVR (Su-27, Su-33, MiG-29)

BVR stands for Beyond Visual Range. You can only lock target from BVR. After you lock on your
target you can fly to it and shoot it down. To access BVR mode you need to press 2.

  1. HMD (Su-27, Su-33, MiG-29)

HMD stands for Helmet Mounted Display. If you have visual on your target you can lock it with
HMD. Keep in mind that HMD can lock your target only
from about 10 miles. To access HMD you need to press 5.

  1. Vertical scan mode (Su-27, Su-33, MiG-29)

Vertical scan mode is 2 lines going from top to bottom of your HUD. Closest aircraft to you will be
locked if it is between these two lines. This mode scans are between these two lines in about 30
degrees from your nose up and down. To access VSM (Vertical Scan Mode) you need to press
4.

  1. Bore scan mode (Su-27, Su-33, MiG-29)

Bore scan mode is just a circle and closest aircraft to you will be locked. To access BSM (Bore
Scan Mode) you need to press 5

  1. Longitudinal Missile Aiming Mode (Su-27, Su-33, Su-25, Su-25T, MiG-29)
LMAM or Longitudinal Missile Aiming Mode is static plus on your HUD. To lock target you need
to point your nose at it until you’ll hear the tone. To access LMAM you need to press 6.

When target is locked:

  1. After locking you need to be close enough. If you are close enough you will see LA (ПР in Russian) on your HUD, then just hold Trigger for few seconds and you can fly away if it is a Heat seeker.
