The official version of New World is out today. Thanks to the beta testing phases, players have an idea about the weapon selections in the game and what is best for them.

The best choice for those who are planning to go the route of healing in New World is undoubtedly the Life Staff Build. While there are plenty of different ways to build this weapon, there are some keys you need to know if you want to do work in both PvP and PvE.

New World Life Staff Build

A Support Healer is one of the classic MMO archetypes, and it works well in New World for leveling and endgame.

This guide will cover the course you ought to take through your proficiencies and characteristics, in addition to how you can effectively use a support build to level up your character fast. We will likewise consist of some variations on the construct so you can try out your playstyle.

Keep in Mind: This New World Life Staff Build is based upon details from the Closed Beta of game, and whatever is subject to change with the game’s full release. We will update this guide for the complete release.

Life Staff Personal Attributes

The first thing you’ll need to consider is what personal attributes should be taken with your Life Staff. While it may be simple to stack all your points into Focus, given this is the only stat that actively buffs the power of the weapon, you will need some variety.

If you want the best results, you should place the majority of your attribute points into Focus, leveling it up to 300 where you will see a huge buff in not only the healing power but also your mana usage.

Along with Focus, you’ll want to reach at least 200 with your Constitution also. This is going to provide much-needed durability that will come in extremely handy in PvP engagements when the healer quickly becomes the target of foes.

The main focus of this build is a combination of the Life Staff and Ice Gauntlet. It can be tricky to level up with this combination at the start of the game, but by the time you reach Expeditions and beyond, it should make for a very effective healer build. As a reference, and thanks for the mastery tree images, you should check out NewWorldFans as a place to experiment with your own builds.

New World Life Staff Best Skills (Masterys)

The Life Staff is going to be your main source of healing and support. You want to focus on these three abilities:

  • Sacred Ground
  • Orb of Protection
  • Light’s Embrace

Sacred Ground Skill

This is one of the biggest sources of AoE healing at your disposal. The base-level ability creates an area of healing (which does not move) that heals for 20 percent of weapon damage every second for 15 seconds. It tiers into Holy Ground (buffs mana and health regen up to 100 percent while stood in Sacred Ground’s aura) and then into Blessed (all allies get an extra 50 percent buff to all incoming healing.)

  • Sacred Ground is situational. Unless you’re running with a reliable group, in an Expedition, for example, it can be tricky to get your allies to actually stay within your aura of healing. It’s an ability that will likely be less useful in PVP because of the number of Bow/Rapier kiters.
  • Sacred Ground is useful for solo-leveling because it offers consistent sustain, but you will have to stay in its aura. It can be difficult to tackle large groups of enemies that might swarm you.

Orb Of Protection Skill

Arguably one of the best abilities for the Life Staff, this is going to be one of your biggest sources of damage and healing. It grants Fortify to allies, healing, and also deals up to 146 percent weapon damage when it hits an enemy.

  • You probably want to take this mastery ability first.
  • Its third-tier of mastery progression, Aegis, provides further AoE healing, ideal if you’re frequently running Expeditions or PVP, but less useful for solo levelers.

Light’s Embrace Skill

Light’s Embrace is the third and final ability. It’s a targeted heal ability that will make up the bulk of your easy healing/support during combat. It tiers into Inspire, which grants extra stamina to your targeted ally, and then into Connection, which helps you to maintain your mana regen.

  • If you’re not running an Ice Gauntlet, Light’s Embrace is the main way to increase mana regen.
  • You don’t need to focus on this mastery tree as a solo player, although it is very useful when it comes to any kind of team combat.

Life Staff Second Weapon and Armor

While you do have choices when it comes to pairing with the Life Staff, the main thing to consider is debuffs. Thus, the Ice Gauntlett makes a perfect companion.

With the Ice Gauntlet, you can cast a variety of slows against foes, preparing for oncoming attacks not only in PvP but also during Expeditions. The Ice Gauntlet also has the ability Entombed, which will allow you to freeze yourself into a bed of ice, escaping some potential life-threatening situations.

As for armor, you’re going to need something that will accentuate durability, given that you’ll often be targeted by other players. Either medium or heavy armor is viable. It is really up to finding the best armor you can acquire within these two classes.

New World Life Staff Skill Tree

You’ll take three key abilities when using the Life Staff, coming from both the Healing and the Protector sides of the skill tree.

First, you’ll definitely want to get Divine Embrace. This will be the healing skill that you’ll use most often thanks to its burst healing that comes in handy whenever you or your allies are under attack. You’ll want to take the Privilege passive on this ability along with Shared Struggle, which will both bolster the skill’s effects, making it more mana efficient and able to heal multiple targets.

The next key ability to take is Orb of Protection, another buffing ability that won’t just heal allies, but also grant them a defensive buff. This is one of the few damaging abilities in the Life Staff healing tree, so it also doubles as a handy offensive tool when questing alone. You’ll want the Protector’s Blessing passive also to increase its healing capabilities.

Finally, the last key ability in this build is Beacon, the most mana-efficient healing ability available for the Life Staff. You’ll also want all its available passive upgrades, increasing its size, duration, and the haste of allies while buffed. This is also another move that can be used to damage foes.

There are a bunch of standalone passives you’ll want to take for more healing and mana management purposes. Here is a list of how you can round out the build.

  • Absolved
  • Mending Touch
  • Blissful Touch
  • Revitalize
  • Enchanted Justice
  • Intensify
  • Sacred Protection
  • Bend Light
  • Protector’s Strength
  • Divine Blessing
