Ori and the Will of the Wisps How to Sentry Jump

Check out the details in our guide to gain extra height with sentry jumping in Ori and the Will of the Wisps.

How to Sentry Jump

Sentry Jumping is way of gaining a lot of height. This can be used in the early stages in the game to unlock or move your way through areas which would otherwise only become available in the later stages of the game.

Requirements

  • Spirit Edge Ability or Spirit Smash Ability
  • Sentry Ability

How to unlock these Abilities

  • Spirit Edge can be unlocked in the Inkwater Marsh, the Image underneath shows the exact location for this Ability
  • Sentry is available for purchase from Opher in the Wellspring Glades

How to Sentry Jump

There are multiple ways to perform a Sentry Jump. I am going to go over every single method for you guys so you can see which method works best for you.

Method 1a: Spirit Edge

  • Step 1: Hold down the button to perform an upwards attack with Spirit Edge, but do not use Spirit Edge yet. (basically just look up)
  • Step 2: Press Sentry and Spirit Edge at the same time to perform a Sentry Jump. You may need to mess around with the timing since it is really precise. For me it works best if I use Sentry just a millisecond before Spirit Edge.

Method 1b: Spirit Edge (mid air)

  • Step 1: Hold down the button to perform an upwards attack with Spirit Edge in mid air, but do not use Spirit Edge yet. (basically just look up again)
  • Step 2: Press Sentry a slight moment before Spirit Edge to perform a Sentry Jump (so it’s almost simultaneously) .Just like the regular Sentry Jump, you may need to mess around with the timing since it is really precise if you want to get some height.

Method 2a: Spirit Smash

  • Step 1: Hold down the button to perform an upwards attack with Spirit Smash in mid air, but do not use Spirit Smash yet. (yes, just look up again)
  • Step 2: Press Sentry and around 1/3 of a second (20 frames), press Spirit Smash to perform a Sentry Jump. The timing is a little different from the Spirit Edge, the time gap between moves is bigger so you should have an easier time pressing the buttons in the right order. Still you should experiment with the timing a little to perfect the technique.

Method 2b: Spirit Smash (mid air)

  • Step 1: Hold down the button to perform an upwards attack with Spirit Smash in mid air, but do not use Spirit Smash yet. (for one last time, just look up again)
  • Step 2: Press Sentry and around 1/3 of a second (18 frames), press Spirit Smash to perform a Sentry Jump. The timing is almost the same as the previous method, the time gap between moves is only 2 frames shorter this time. So if you know how to perform a regular Sentry Jump, this should be no problem. Just remember to keep experimenting with the timing (I know i’ve already said that like 4 times).
