How to Start the No Good Deed Mission
First things first, you need to be in Chapter 3 of the main story. This mission should become available after you’ve completed story missions like “The Course of True Love” or “American Distillation.”
Your target is a man named Dr. Alphonse Renaud. You’ll find him in Rhodes, typically sitting on a box near the front of the Gray Woolen Mill, towards the end of the main street. He’s easy to spot in his striped clothing.
When I first approached him, he was incredibly jumpy. He immediately apologized for bothering me and almost tried to run off! I had to calm him down to get his story. It turns out some local thugs stole his wagon, which was full of his medical supplies. As a man of (sometimes questionable) honor, I couldn’t let that stand. I agreed to help him get it back.
Just as I accepted the task, a helpful bystander in a white shirt chimed in. He told me he overheard the crooks saying they were taking the wagon to Macomb’s End. A waypoint will conveniently pop up on your map, marking the location northeast of Rhodes.

Macomb’s End: The Showdown
Hop on your horse and ride towards the waypoint. Macomb’s End is a rundown, swampy encampment, so be ready for a fight as you approach the dilapidated buildings.
Now, you have two ways to handle this, and I’ll break them both down for you:
- The Stealthy Approach: You could try to sneak around to the back of the camp, find the wagon, and just drive away. It’s risky, and if you get caught, you’ll be fighting anyway.
- The Guns Blazing Approach (My Recommendation): Honestly, this is the easier and more straightforward way to do it. There are no Gold Medals or special objectives for being quiet here, so you might as well clear the place out. There are only about six enemies in total, so it’s nothing you can’t handle.
As I rode up, the thugs started shooting. I immediately took cover behind one of the thick trees—they provide excellent protection. Pick off the first few enemies, then carefully advance towards the houses at the back of the camp. A few more will be waiting for you there. Take your time, use your Dead Eye, and clear them all out.
Once the coast is clear, you’ll find the doctor’s stolen wagon parked behind the houses, right near the river dock.
The Ride Back to Rhodes and the Final Encounter
With the enemies dealt with, all that’s left is to return the wagon. Hop on and start heading back to Rhodes.
A quick but important tip: stick to the road! The grounds around Macomb’s End are swampy and very uneven. If you try to take a shortcut, you seriously risk damaging the wagon or tipping it over, which would be a huge pain.
The journey back isn’t entirely peaceful. As you approach the main crossroads, keep your eyes peeled. Two more thugs on horseback will ride up and attack you. I found it easiest to quickly activate Dead Eye while still driving the wagon and pop them with a headshot each. Once they’re down, it’s smooth sailing the rest of the way back to town.
Drive the wagon back to Dr. Renaud, who will be waiting where you left him. He’ll be overjoyed to see his supplies returned.
Your Reward for a Good Deed Mission
For all your trouble, Dr. Renaud will thank you profusely and hand you a pamphlet. Don’t just discard it! This book teaches you the recipe for the Special Health Cure. It’s a fantastic tonic to have in your arsenal, making this short and simple mission well worth the effort.
And there you have it! One good deed done, and a valuable new recipe learned.
