New World Fire Staff Build

Of all the wonderful weapons in New World, the Fire Staff boasts the best destructive abilities. If you’re after a weapon that can complete in solo combat against other damage classes however still plan on having a wizardry aesthetic, this is the option for you.

With two different branches in their ability trees, weapons in New World have lots of different methods to build them that can be much better for various situations in the game. We’ll be sharing a build that can be utilized in both PvP and PvE scenarios with success.

New World constructs are more than just weapon proficiency though. You likewise need to think about armor, secondary weapons, and attributes. Here is among the very best develops you can try out on your own on the launch of New World.

New World Fire Staff Attributes and Stats

Unlike other magical weapons, the Fire Staff is a great primary. Because of this, you’ll want to invest most of your attribute points into buffing its strength.

To begin, make sure you boost your Intelligence to 300. This is going to assist in both mana management and also greatly buff the power of this weapon. Following this, the remaining points should be invested into Constitution so that you have the ability to withstand whatever damage foes may cast your way.

Fire Staff Secondary Weapon and Armor Choice

Pairing the Fire Staff can be done a few different ways, but the best is to take another weapon that compliments the same attributes but offers a distinctly different skillset.

The Ice Gauntlet stacks best off Intelligence too, and you’ll get great value by using it with the Fire Staff. Its best asset is the slowing abilities at your disposal and the powerful Entombed ability.

Entombed allows the player to seal themselves in a block of ice where they won’t be damaged and can regenerate mana. This can also be detonated to disperse close enemies and deal impressive damage.

Armor-wise, you’ll want to take either medium or heavy armor. The purpose of this is to bolster your Constitution and provide extra durability and other buffs that benefit the Fire Staff.

Fire Staff Best Skills Weapon Mastery

The Fire Staff is the perfect DPS tool with damaging abilities that can cover a wide AoE. Here are the three best abilities to take on this weapon.

Meteor Shower is arguably the most powerful ability you can get. A shower of meteors rains down, dealing damage to a targeted area. Take all the available passive upgrades for this move also, which will provide some mana recovery, do extra damage, and stop the attack from being interrupted as easily.

Next, take another ability from the Fire Mage branch, this time Fire Ball. This move shoots out a single ball of fire that deals devastating damage on hit, but also leaves a burning effect on the area that will continue to damage enemies within. Taking the two passive upgrades to this skill is a must as it will increase the duration of the effect as well as supplying mana and cooldown reduction on hit.

The final ability you’ll want is Incinerate from the Pyromancer branch. Like the previously mentioned Entombed, Incinerate is great for dispersing nearby enemies. Upon activation, the move will produce a fiery explosion around the player dealing damage and sending nearby enemies back. With its upgrades, this move will also heal some of the player’s health back, equal to 20 percent of the damage dealt.

While these are the core moves for this build, here are the remaining abilities you’ll need to take that are less flash but equally important.

  • Spell Focus
  • Spellslinger
  • Prophet of a Fire God
  • Flare
  • Runes of Helios
  • Pyromania
  • Let it Burn
  • Watch it Burn

Best Fire Staff Build

There are two builds that have seen a lot of use with the Fire Staff: the Fire Staff and Ice Gauntlet combination, and the Fire Staff and Rapier combination. These builds have distinct playstyles. We’ll cover both here.

Fire Staff and Ice Gauntlet Build

We’ve gone into more depth about the Ice Gauntlet in our best Ice Gauntlet build guide, but we’ll go over why the Fire Staff and Ice Gauntlet pair so well together, mostly for PvE, with some use in large-scale PvP.

Ice Gauntlet Setup
  • The Fire Staff and Ice Gauntlet combo is all built off of one active ability in the Gauntlet’s Builder tree: Entombed.
  • Entombed freezes you inside a tower of ice (it can be destroyed) that greatly speeds up mana regeneration. Due to the mana costs of the Fire Staff’s abilities, this is a great ability that keeps you in the fight for longer.
  • Entombed can also be used as an “uh oh” card, to use when you find yourself surrounded by enemies during PvE. It will give you a brief moment to let your cooldowns recharge.

Active Skills: Pillar of Fire, Incinerate, and Flame Thrower.

  • Pillar of Fire can be exchanged for Fireball. Pillar of Fire is better for single-target PvP, whereas Fireball is better for PvE. Mix and match to see what works best for you.
  • Flame Thrower and Incinerate are your main source of Burn damage.
  • The Cauterize Wounds passive in the Incinerate tree also provides a bit of sustainability, with health regen based on damage dealt.

Your best bet is to wear Light Armor and focus on Intelligence for max damage with the Fire Staff. Any intelligence gem can be a huge boost to your fire and burn damage, so worth looking into if you’re reaching an endgame build.

Fire Staff and Rapier Build

The Fire Staff and Rapier is an excellent choice for PvP, especially single-target and one-on-one duels as you run around the world with your PvP flag held high. We’ve covered the Rapier in-depth here, if you want to read more about one of the best PvP weapons in the game.

Rapier Setup for the Fire Staff

The Fire Staff is your main damage source in this build, and as such, the Rapier is used primarily for evasion and kiting during fights.

  • Riposte is essential for PvP. If you manage to land it successfully, your opponent will be frozen in place for a short period, ideal if you can switch out to the Fire Staff and hit an ability while they’re stuck.
  • Evade, when paired with the Light Armor mobility boosts, is basically the way you’re going to avoid taking damage. Max out this tree.
  • You’ve got two options for your third active ability: Fleche or Tondo. Fleche gives you that extra mobility, whereas Tondo will apply extra bleed damage. Combine that with Burn and you’ve got a lot of stacking DMG, but Tondo is harder to hit if your opponent is playing ranged (most PvPers do.)

The Fire Staff is your main source of damage. Both your abilities and auto-attacks are going to melt through opponents if you can land your hits.

Active Skills: Pillar of Fire (a targeted ability is better for PvP, takes less aiming ability), Fireball (deals damage but also reduces cooldowns with its third-tier passive), and Burn Out (the ability that gives you dash a flame-walk, which will burn enemies if you hit them.)

  • Crucial passives to pick up include Singe, which creates a burning effect after hitting a critical hit, Spellslinger, which gives you a better crit chance, and Prophet of a Fire God, for extra crit damage.
  • You’re basically building a crit-heavy Fire Staff that can deal massive damage from range. Use your Burn Out to either engage or escape, and switch to the Rapier if your opponent gets close. There’s a great balance here between mobility and damage.
